President's Column  #1   March 2004

Chicago Toys for Tots Motorcycle Parade President Bob Kuczera

Good morning. First off, thanks to all those on the Board of Directors that decided to remain another year. Your efforts this past year made it one of the most memorable and largest TFT Parades ever. Also your commitment to stay on board for our 27th year makes it a bit easier as we hopefully get the pistons running smoother to accomplish our goals of aiding kids at Christmas. So thank you and welcome back; Peggy Estes, Pat Quinn, Lester Fortier, Tommy Rotto, Thomas Froehlich and Jack Voss.

Big kudos and thanks to Mark "Tiger" Atilano for his years of dedication as President.  It was indeed a task sometimes not understood.  He came in at a time of tremendous change for the Organization. He was able to accomplish one of the most successful terms ever in giving back to the community both in terms of toys and financial assistance. A job well done and not necessarily well thanked, but taken for granted.

This was well assisted by his lovely wife Gina (My Hillary Clinton) who many times aided me with my communications.

Thank you also to Rebecca Lockard for your year of service in co-coordinating efforts on the North side. Again the co-ordination involved indeed is taken for granted.

Now for the new Board members. Welcome aboard Tom Yarber and Kevin Curth. The addition of both of these members should indeed strengthen our organization and help it grow. Tom’s 15 plus years in many capacities with Toys for Tots and his many years as an ABATE VP and Activities Co-coordinator can only help us. The only problem I see is that the microphone is not big enough for us both. We also thank his wife, Claudia, for her support and cooperation as a long time TFTer and with her support of his acceptance.  Kevin Curth has already presented himself well in aiding Rebecca as the Northside Assistant. I am sure with that crew already well trained via George Gora and Rebecca, he should have a good foundation to work on. We are also lucky to have his wife Evie to assist him, as she has aided us creatively in the past with computer assistance. Good luck to you both and we do want your observations to continually improve. Welcome aboard and thanks for accepting.

As for myself in my new title… the office position does not change my commitment. Basically all that is new is the title for the officer’s spot or what the heading on the letterhead. My dedication and networking will not change. I hope that we can continue to be successful as ever as The World’s Largest Toys for Tots Parade to assist children. My biggest focus will be to make sure that we continue  making The Parade as safe as possible. Due to the magnitude of it growing year after year, we have to really continue on doing whatever it takes to maintain its safety. Thanks for your confidence.

Recently we participated at both the International Bike Show at the Rosemont Center and the SuperCycle Show at McCormick Place. We had a lot of assistance at both events for selling product, Harley and Sturgis Raffle Tickets. So "Thank you" to everyone that helped, you did a wonderful job. We even had a few new members who had some fun.

Thanks to Dickie and Janice Betchkal for their generosity in allowing us to become a big part of the SuperCycle Show & Expo. See you there again next year.
